CISCO IP Phone

This page describes you how to use your existing Cisco IP Phone.

PhoneCaption currently support Cisco Model 79XX series.

Cisco IP Phone 7940 series
1 Handset with indicator light Functions like a traditional handset. The light strip at the top of the handset blinks when the phone rings and remains lit to indicate a new voice mail message.
2 LCD screen Displays features such as the time, date, phone number, caller ID, line/call status and soft key tabs.
3 Cisco IP Phone model type Indicates Cisco IP Phone model.
4 Line or speed dial button Opens a new line, speed dials the number on the LCD screen, or ends a call. The Cisco IP Phone 7960 has six line or speed dial buttons and the 7940 has two.
5 Footstand adjustment Allows you to adjust the angle of the phone base.
6 Directories button Provides access to call histories and directories.
7 i button Displays help on LCD screen for a phone button or function.
8 Settings button Provides access to phone settings such as contrast and ring sound, network configuration, and status information.
9 Speaker button Toggles the speaker on or off.
10 Mute button Toggles the mute on or off.
11 Headset button Toggles the headset on or off.
12 Volume button Increases or decreases volume for the handset, headset, or speakerphone (depending upon which is currently active). Also controls the ringer volume (if on-hook), and the LCD contrast.
13 Services / Caption Button When you push this button, caption should start to appear automatically. You should press this after you pick up the handset for incoming calls and after a call is connected for all outbound calls.
14 Messages button Provides access to a message system (if available).
15 Navigation button Enables you to scroll through text and select features displayed on the LCD screen.
16 Dial pad Works exactly like the dial pad on a traditional telephone.
17 Soft keys Enable you to engage any of the functions displayed on the corresponding LCD tabs. Soft keys point to feature options displayed along the bottom of the LCD screen. Soft keys change depending on the status of the phone.

Follow the following steps:

1) Do you currently have a Cisco Phone?

If your answer is YES proceed to next item

2) Is your phone model 79XX series.

If your answer is YES proceed to next item.

3) Are you using your Cisco Phone with a VoiP Provider?

If your answer is YES proceed to next item.

4) Do you know your current provider name and contact information?

If your answer is YES proceed to below direction.

II. How to Receive Captions on my existing Cisco Phone?

1.) To obtain your dedicated PhoneCaption number, register for service at www.PhoneCaption.com

2.) Send your UserID, the number of your Cisco Phone assigned by your VoiP provider, to our support team at support@phonecaption.com

3.) Upon doing so, we will send you a serviceURL.

4.) Provide this serviceURL to your VoiP Provider – Technical Support Team.

5.) Your VOIP provider will configure your phone to accept the serviceURL and ultimately receive captions for your calls.

6.) If your VoiP Provider has any questions or issues, have them call 212-200-2030 and we will have our technical team guide them through the process.

7.) If your VoiP Provider is not providing assistance, ask them to connect you to person in charge for “accessible communication for people with disabilities”. If you do not get any help from them, please send an email to support@phonecaption.com Or, call 212-200-2030, we will try to contact them on your behalf and will try to help you. We are here to assist you in any way possible.

8.) Most of the large corporations are providers themselves. If you work for a company in most cases you might have to contact your IT department.
